HRV is one of several firms to have been honored with an Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE) for their performance on the Liberty Bridge Rehabilitation Project. HRV EVP of Operations Robert Stachel, PE, accepted the award on behalf of the entire HRV team, which PSPE presented at the E-Week Banquet, held on February 23, 2019, in conjunction with Engineers Week. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding people involved in exceptional engineering projects in the local Pittsburgh region.
HRV’s participation on this important PennDOT District 11-0 bridge rehab project involved both our Coatings and Steel Divisions. Under Coatings Operations Manager Jared Rigo’s direction, HRV’s Gilbert Martinez, Ralph Lowe, and Sean Atwater performed coatings inspection for the $85 million rehabilitation project. HRV also provided emergency technical expertise in response to a construction fire, which occurred as the 88-year-old bridge was undergoing reconstruction. HRV’s David Wright (Steel Project Manager) provided supervisory oversight and conducted site visits while the work progressed. HRV’s Robert Stachel and Kate Mantkowski (Steel Project Manager) provided magnetic particle testing on high strength bolts and hardness testing of existing steel, and HRV Certified Welding Inspectors Brad King and Kevin Sullivan provided around the clock on-site quality assurance services during field welding associated with the temporary jacking structure.
